Discovery towns in the Upper Lusatian Six Towns League

For many centuries, six Upper Lusatian towns were glamorous hubs for business people from all over the world. Today, this also makes them popular destinations for tourists from all over the world. Bautzen, Görlitz, Löbau, Lauban (Lubań, Poland) and Zittau score points with their shared history and modern elements. The traditional culture is one of the defining features. Medieval flair, imposing towers and architectural monuments show the charm of times gone by.

Pückler's garden dreams

Probably the most radiant pearl of Upper Lusatian garden culture is the Fürst Pückler Park in Bad Muskau. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One third of the park is located on German territory and two thirds on Polish territory. The Muskau Forest Railway connects the parks in Kromlau and Bad Muskau with Weißwasser, the city of ice hockey.

Christmas in Upper Lusatia

Christmas makes eyes light up and hearts beat faster. Who doesn't know the Pulsnitz gingerbread with its jam filling or the Herrnhut stars that decorate churches, living rooms and public spaces? Christmas markets have a long tradition in Upper Lusatia. The Wenceslas market in Bautzen is the oldest of all. The Christmas market in Görlitz is known for its traditional craftsmanship and an ice skating rink in the middle of the old town.

Easter in Upper Lusatia

Easter is the highest Christian festival. Unique customs and traditions characterize Upper Lusatia. The Easter horse ride is widely known. On Easter Sunday, the festively dressed Sorbian horsemen ride out on decorated horses in processions to proclaim the good news of Jesus' resurrection. The Good Friday procession in Görlitz commemorates the Passion of Christ. It leads from St. Peter's Church to the Holy Sepulchre, a replica of the burial site in Jerusalem. The artistically decorated Sorbian Easter eggs are an ornament of many Easter bushes. Every year on Easter Sunday, the egg hunt on the Protschenberg is great fun, especially for families.

Upper Lusatia also has its own leaning tower. It is 1.44 meters out of plumb, making it leaner than the Tower of Pisa. Don't miss the Reichenturm in Bautzen. It is a popular photo motif.

If you walk from the Reichenturm across the Kornmarkt in the direction of the Kornmarkt-Center, you can best see the displacement of the Reichenturm.
