Fabulous views ...

... is what the Upper Lusatian Mountain Trail offers you as the only certified long-distance hiking trail in Upper Lusatia.

The trail is over 100 kilometers long and winds along the German-Czech border through a centuries-old cultural landscape. Six striking hilltops accompany you along the way and dominate Upper Lusatia as landmarks. The viewing towers offer far-reaching views as far as the Giant Mountains and the Jizera Mountains. The quality long-distance hiking trail covers a total of 2,300 meters in altitude and includes important places such as the historic town of Zittau, the innovative textile location of Großschönau, the beer town of Eibau and the pottery village of Neukirch. Let yourself be enchanted by the diversity of this cultural landscape.

... and unique cultural landscapes.

Did you know that the hilltops of Butterberg, Valtenberg, Bieleboh, Kottmar, Lausche and Hochwald were important starting points for the royal Saxon land survey - also known as "triangulation"? This survey was carried out from 1862 to 1890 on the then territory of the Kingdom of Saxony. The neighboring states were so fascinated by it that this type of land surveying set a precedent. Today, on most of the hilltops along the Upper Lusatian Mountain Trail, you can discover the fixed points that were so important for surveying as triangulation columns. And understand why a clear view was as important back then as it is today.

The landscape along the Oberlausitzer Bergweg long-distance hiking trail offers so many other remarkable and unique cultural and natural experiences that are fun to explore. Ask us and your local hosts. We will be happy to give you tips on exploring the landscape.

Here everything revolves around the Teichelmauke!

Delicious regional recipes to make yourself! (also available at the Baude)

Teichelmauke is a traditional dish made from mashed potatoes, beef, vegetables and lots of beef broth. But that's not all: another classic is the Oberlausitzer Stupperle. The typical dumpling recipe has some semolina in the dough alongside the jacket potatoes. If you've now worked up an appetite, you can easily recreate the dish yourself.
