For Alexander Hoschke, ranger in the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve and head of the nature guard there, the true beauty of nature lies in its originality and mystical flair.

"The interplay of water and land, meadows and forests in the Spreewald is simply breathtaking," explains Alexander Hoschke. He has been supporting the natural development of the Spreewald since 2015 and guides guests and locals through the enchanted water arms. "The diversity of flora and fauna in this area is not only a testament to nature, but also proof of how important it is to look after and preserve this landscape."

The Spreewald - an ancient natural paradise

The Spreewald is an impressive example of the beauty of a natural cultural landscape. The numerous water arms of the Spree flow through the area and create a unique network of canals that characterize the landscape. "The Spreewald is a living labyrinth of waterways that is constantly changing and always has new surprises in store," says Alexander Hoschke enthusiastically. "Rare animal species can be found here, such as the kingfisher and the European pond turtle, which find ideal living conditions in this protected environment."

The stories of the Spreewald

Alexander Hoschke takes us on a journey through time and the stories of the Spreewald. "Every corner here has its own history, its own legends and myths," says the ranger. "I find the legends surrounding the Lutken, the little Spreewald spirits who, according to legend, protect and guard nature, particularly fascinating. These stories are not only part of the cultural heritage, but also a reflection of the deep connection people have with the Spreewald."

A place of peace and inspiration

The Spreewald not only offers spectacular nature experiences, but also places of peace and inspiration. "I always recommend guests to take their time and let the tranquillity of the Spreewald work its magic," advises Alexander Hoschke. "There's nothing quite like a trip on a traditional Spreewald barge at sunrise, when the first rays of sunshine break through the morning mist and nature comes to life."

Experience the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve in all its glory! Accompany Alexander Hoschke and the Nature Watch team and let yourself be enchanted by the magic of the Spreewald.
