The ‘Umgebindehaus‘ timber-framed houses were built homes and workplaces for many weaver families in the traditional style characteristic of this region where Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic meet. Visitors are warmly invited to find out about life today behind these walls seeped in history. This includes open workshops and crafts production along the Discover Handcrafts holiday route (Ferienstraße Handwerk erleben), where you can find the traditional art of potters, woad dyers and linen weavers, as well as basket makers and many others who are happy to let you watch them at their work. Visitors can also create something themselves if they would like.
The Lusatian industrial culture offers an authentic experience of another, entirely different kind: industrial museums, historical machine houses and working crafts studios give visitors a glimpse into everyday industrial production.
